TAHC

Have you ever questioned what the Thurston Affordable Housing Council (TAHC) contribution of $40, at the bottom of your membership dues invoice, goes toward? Olympia Master Builders' primary goal is to provide affordable housing for all economic segments of society. We work toward this goal through TAHC.

WHAT is Thurston Affordable Housing Council? TAHC is a Political Action Committee (PAC) that participates in the political process working to ensure:

  1. Affordable housing issues remain at the forefront of discussions when policies and ordinances are developed.
  2. Promotion of candidates and issues that will help in the fight for affordability.

TAHC has existed for over 13 years in the community. The money that we collect is used as described above for the promotion of affordable housing. TAHC contributes to those candidates who support the goals of the home building industry. Every election year the TAHC Board puts a notice in the Chalk Line on who they recommend for election.

The use of TAHC resources is not limited to the Thurston County area. The Board of TAHC has a history of supporting candidates in our chapters as well, to make a difference where you work and live.

Which leads us to the WHY we have TAHC? TAHC is one of the best ways that individuals can express collectively their political voice. The actions of TAHC work to create a level of accountability with our elected officials.

Certainly when we look at the onslaught of proposed ordinances and regulations that face housing today, we realize that we must have a mechanism to help us take a stand.

WHEN is the next meeting? TAHC meetings are open to all members of OMB. The next meeting will be at noon on Wednesday, February 21 at the Emperor's Palace in Lacey. The focus of the meeting will include a wrap-up discussion of the 2006 campaign efforts. In addition, the TAHC will be evaluating the possible support for various candidates or issues during the 2007 election season.

For more information regarding TAHC participation contact the OMB office at 360-754-0912.
