Primary Election Update

OMB Staff

The 2008 primary election was held on Tuesday, August 19 and the Olympia Master Builder's (OMB) political action committee, The Affordable Housing Council (TAHC), was actively involved in many races directly related to the building industry.

In the important Thurston County Commissioner - District 2 race Jon Halvorson suffered a surprising defeat to fellow candidates Sandra Romero and Robin Edmundson. Randy Neatherlin made it through a tightly contested primary and is preparing for the General Election in November.

In a race that was decided in the primary, a victory was earned by Thurston County Superior Court Judge Gary Tabor gaining re-election by defeating Ed Holm by a wide margin.  Unfortunately, in the race for the Court of Appeals seat Tim Ford was defeated by incumbent Judge Robin Hunt.

Olympia's Proposition 1, which is to fund and staff a fourth fire station and fire training facility in Olympia, passed easily and is on its way to ensure a safer community.

"Overall, we are very pleased with the outcomes of the races in which we were involved," commented Olympia Master Builders President Karen McClennan, "and we are looking forward to continuing our efforts through the general election."

Some of the work done by the OMB's political action committees this primary election included mailers, newspaper and online advertisements, and sign distribution.  This involvement ensured that OMB members' interest were represented and heard.

OMB will continue to be actively involved in the upcoming general election and is looking to its members to help support their endorsed candidates this November.
