Politics OMB Style - Nothing to Hide!
Political season is here once again.  Over the past several months the trustees of The Affordable Housing Council (TAHC) have been working hard to review candidate questionnaires and make candidate endorsements on behalf of the home building industry.  [ more ]

Connecting the Dots
One of the most rewarding things about my job is getting to see the "big picture" of the Olympia Master Builders (OMB) efforts and how everything the association does connects together.  As we enter into this campaign season, I wanted to share my perspective on how the dots connect.  [ more ]

Letter to the Editor

Greetings from South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity's ReStore. The ReStore is Habitat's retail outlet which sells both new and used building materials; interior fixtures; doors; windows; and appliances. Everything we receive is donated and everything we sell begins at 50% of retail and goes down. What's important to know is that sales from the store are used to cover all the expenses of the store and for the affiliate (the end that builds homes), this totals about $21,000 a month. When we reach our sales goal every penny of every dollar we receive in donation goes directly to building affordable homes for people who need them.

All donations help us continue our mission. A left-handed door that is a mistake to the builder or contractor looking for a right-handed door is perfectly usable to us, and your donation to us is tax deductible. You rid yourself of dead or unusable inventory and we use the profits to run our operations. The result is many-fold: good material is kept out of the landfill; all income levels of our community have access to quality goods; the money we raise lets us be independent of charity and; this lets us use our resources to be charitable unto others so they too gain independence. It’s a good model for an effective community partnership and I hope that we can look forward to working with more fellow members of the Olympia Master Builders. Please contact the ReStore at 753-1575 and ask for Tian or for questions about our program please call Curt at 956-3456.

With thanks,
Tian Brainard, ReStore Manager and
Curt D. Andino, Executive Director
