Housing Forecast Featured at February GMM

The room was filled at the February General Membership Meeting as Olympia Master Builders' members and guests listened to city and county officials' views on the housing forecast for the Thurston County area. The meeting featured elected officials: Deputy Mayor John Darby, Olympia Mayor Pro-Tem Jeff Kingsbury, Tumwater Mayor Ralph Osgood, Yelm Mayor Ron Harding and Thurston County Chief Administrative Officer Don Krupp. Each shared their views on how their governments are working together to help the housing industry and government work together.

All of the officials indicated they expect residential housing to remain strong in 2008. They acknowledged one of the biggest challenges they face is water rights and providing housing that is affordable.

Olympia Master Builders (OMB) President Karen McClennen of The Olympian said, "This was an excellent opportunity for OMB members to hear what these city officials plans are for growing their communities. There were some excellent questions asked by the audience and some good answers from the city officials. OMB's Government Affairs program has helped to breach the gap between the city and OMB's builder needs."
